Our next concert, on Saturday 9th May 2009 is an afternoon performance of light music in aid of the Winchester Live at Home Scheme, at the United Church, Winchester (see map).
We are delighted to welcome Francis Wells as guest conductor. Francis is well-known to the orchestra, as a long-standing supporter and former musical director.
The programme includes:
| Suppé | Overture to 'Ein Morgen, ein Mittag, ein Abend in Wien' (Morning Noon and Night in Vienna) |
| Bruch | Romance for Viola and Orchestra in F, Op. 85 |
| Coates | Dambusters March |
| Godfrey | Lucy Long, Song with Original Variations for Bassoon & Orchestra |
| Britten | Soirées Musicales (from Rossini), Op. 9 |
| Handel | Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, from 'Solomon' |
| Prokofiev | Peter and the Wolf, Op. 67 |
We have again chosen the Winchester Live at Home Scheme as the beneficiary of our charity concert. The aim of this group is to recruit, train and equip volunteers to provide support and friendship to older people in Winchester who still live in their own homes and may have become isolated and lonely for whatever reason. The Winchester scheme was established in July 2000 and now provides a friendship club, an exercise group, a lunch club, one-to-one support, help with shopping and telephone support, as well as a range of outings.
